Changing Your Wedding Plans - Intimate Ghost Lake Wedding

With all of the Covid 19 news lately, adapting to changes of your wedding plans is a hot topic. I’ll save how the pandemic is affecting wedding planing for another day though. Couples have been forced to make changes to their day many times before all of this started. Another factor that you can’t control on your wedding day is the weather. During my consultations I always try to speak to couples about managing their expectations. There’s only so much planning you can do before your big day and when the morning of your wedding finally arrives you just have to relax, absorb every single moment and roll with the punches. That’s exactly what Rachel and Tom did when their Ghost Lake wedding was rained out last summer. Cue Alanis Morissette, It’s like rayyyyyy ee aiiiiiiin on your wedding day.

They had initially planned to get ready and have their first look at Rachel’s mom’s beautiful home on the shores of Ghost Lake and then have an intimate outdoor ceremony and reception at Gleneagles Golf Course in Cochrane. As I was driving out to Ghost Lake the morning of the wedding I noticed the skies getting darker and darker and by the time I arrived the rain was coming down sideways. Thankfully Rachel and Tom were super chill about everything and as the rain and thunder picked up outside all we could was laugh. They ended up having their first look on the steps inside her mom’s house while their family watched from down the hallway and it was such a sweet moment. We ran outside with umbrellas for photos and dodged puddles. They were completely soaked but were such troopers as I told them over and over how epic the light and skies were. Although it wasn’t their first choice for the ceremony they quickly adapted to the weather and moved their ceremony indoors. The clouds parted and the sun poked out just in time for cocktail hour on the lawn as they had planned. Their day was completely different than they had planned but ended up being so perfect. And with all the nasty clouds around we were rewarded with an amazing sunset. This was totally an example of “Never mind the weather as long as we’re together”. Your day is going to be perfect no matter what’s going on around you so you really do have to just be in the moment and let go of your plans and expectations.
