From wedding photographer to family photographer

One of my favourite things about being a wedding photographer is getting to witness and capture all of my sweet clients’ milestones after their wedding. I was so lucky to be Saba and Mezn’s wedding photographer a few years ago at Flores and Pine. Since then I’ve been so lucky to photograph their maternity session, family photos with their son and now newborn photos with their second baby. It means so much that they trust me to document these moments for them.

Newborn sessions at home

We did their newborn session at their beautiful home in Calgary. Because we know each other so well already it was really easy to capture some authentic, candid moments of them with their sweet boys. My favourite sessions are the ones where everyone is relaxed and happy and just comfortable being themselves in their home. I also love the comfort and ease that shooting at home gives. I know how stressful and how much work it can be to pack up a newborn so planning your session at home keep everyone relaxed and calm.

How to include an older sibling in your newborn session

Saba and Mezn have a sweet older son already so obviously he was a part of our session. He was excited and cooperative but this isn’t always the case. Being a mom myself I know just how to handle tricky situations where older siblings don’t want to participate. I’ve learned that the more you try to force it the harder it makes it for everyone. We’ll usually just do our thing and if they want to hold teh baby or be in the photos - great. If not, that’s fine too. Talking about the session beforehand can get older siblings comfortable with the idea before I come over. Letting them know that it won’t take long and that it would be really special to have some photos of them can help. Bribery is a secret weapon that works wonders too. A promise of a treat after usually lures in even the most hesitant older brother or sister. Although I’ll do my best to get that perfect, everyone looking at me photo, try to not have any expectations before hand. This chapter of life can b chaotic and that’s what I’m there to document.
